Westpac customers can now transfer their Altitude points to Woolworths Everyday Rewards. In addition, St George, Bank of Melbourne and Bank SA Amplify Rewards customers are also able to transfer Amplify points
While touted as a way to save cash off a weekly shop, it provides a path to transfer Altitude points to Qantas Frequent Flyer. This could be a good option for many.
As is the case with most bank credit cards, if you choose to earn Qantas Points, you are locked in to receiving Qantas Points. Being able to transfer points to Everday Rewards provides a way around that.
The ability to transfer to Everyday Rewards can help to keep your options open. You can choose from one of their other airline partners, or go via Everyday Rewards to get them to Qantas,
Transfer Altitude/Amplify to Everyday Rewards
You can transfer points from within the Altitude Rewards site. Select Redeem Points -> Transfer Partners -> Everyday Rewards Points. Note that there are two options for Everyday Rewards, one of which is to set up auto transfer.
Once you are in the transfer page, you select the number of Altitude Points that you wish to transfer. As you transfer in increments of 300 points you can choose how many blocks of 300 points you wish to transfer. In this case, I am transferring 3,000 Altitude Points, so enter 10.
This will then take you to your cart, and from there you proceed to Checkout. At the Checkout stage you will need to enter your name and Everyday Rewards number. Once you have added the information you can submit the information. According to Westpac, the points will land in your Everyday Rewards account in 5-7 business days.
Points Value
Generally, Altitude and Amplify points don’t have a fixed value in the way that Everyday Rewards does, That said, the transfer rate has been set at 3,000 Altitude or Amplify points will convert to 2,000 Everyday Rewards points. In the Everyday Rewards program that could get you a $10 discount off your shop. So, effectively, you would get about 0.33 cents for each point you transferred.
By comparison, you can convert 28,200 Altitude Points into a $100 cashback. That puts a value on the Altitude Points of about 0.35 cents, which is slightly higher.
Conversion to Qantas Points
However, once those 2,000 points are in you Everyday Rewards account, one of the options is to convert the points to Qantas Points. As a reminder, you have three options:
- Convert to Qantas Frequent Flyer points (2,000 Everyday Rewards points = 1,000 Qantas points),
- Take a discount at Woolworths (2,000 Everyday Rewards points = $10 off your shop), or
- Bank your points for Christmas (and then use them to save on shopping in December or do a big transfer to Qantas).
If you set up your account to transfer to Qantas, the points will arrive from Altitude or Amplify account. Then they will be converted across to Qantas Points. So, you will get 1,000 Qantas Points for those 2,000 Everyday Reward points.
That means that effectively you will receive 1,000 Qantas Points for those 3,000 Altitude Points. This is same rate as you get when transferring to the Asia Miles, Velocity or Krisflyer programs.
Altitude Transfer Partners
You can currently transfer Westpac Altitude points to five other partners, as shown below.
