World of Hyatt has extended its Bonus Journeys promotion. Originally finishing up on 4 January, it is now valid for stays through until 28 February 2021.
The promotion basically stays the same, although there is a wrinkle. You will still earn triple points from your second stay. Each eligible night will be counted twice, with bonus tier nights being awarded in 2021.
And it is the extension of the promotion into 2021 that gives this promotion an interesting twist. Any stay during 2021 under this promotion will effectively count as double nights for 2021

The stays can be at any eligible hotel. This includes the hotels of partners such as Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH).
During the promotion, you can earn a maximum of 150,000 bonus points for this promotion. This may not be such a big deal at the moment, given the travel restrictions. However, these may ease over the course of this promotion, so a few members may bump into it.
Bonus Nights
As mentioned earlier, it is the double-counting of nights that could make this promotion lucrative for some.
Let’s look at how that works. As Hyatt will award you a bonus night in 2021 for each night you stayed during the promotion, there is a different outcome depending on which year your stay was in.
First, let’s consider the case of staying in 2021. Do that, and you will receive your normal tier night in 2020. You will also be awarded a bonus night in 2021. Basically, this allows any nights earned in 2020 to roll into 2021, giving you a head start on chasing status.
But what if you stay in 2021? You will get your normal tier night awarded for 2021. You will also get an additional bonus night. So effectively, you will get 2 tier nights for each night you stay in 2021. This will accelerate your run toward status in 2021.
Thoughts
This is similar to a promotion of the same name that was run earlier this year. This time World of Hyatt has decided that nights earned under this promotion will also count toward elite status next year. This is not a unique idea, as other chains such as Hilton and Accor are running their own versions of a rollover into next year.
